About Don Wallace

You may wish to know about the person behind the business. This is a Question-and-Answer form of explaining where I have been in my life and career, why I am offering this service, and some of the core values that govern the work I do for my clients.
Thanks for visiting.
What is My Professional Passion?
My passion comes from making a real difference to my clients' businesses.
I want to know that my copy and my work for you, or for any of my clients, has resulted in new sales. The purpose of my writing is to help my clients (and perhaps your company, too) to sell products and services.
How and Why Did I Arrive at Copywriting?
I believe that there is no better person to explain and promote a product than someone who has deep experience in the same industry.
As a former programmer and engineer, I build bridges of understanding for my clients so that their customers can understand why they need my clients' products. Since I love to write and educate, it is a perfect marriage of my career experience combined with my clientele's needs and best interests.
Where Did I Come From (Personally and Professionally)?
Prior to copywriting, I worked as an engineer and a programmer for several decades.
I am from Dayton, Ohio. I attended Belmont High School in Dayton, and the University of Dayton.
My degree is in Electrical Engineering. My first job when I graduated from college was at Hewlett-Packard in Silicon Valley. After that, I moved around the country in various jobs and then a contract project in Florida, and I finally returned to Ohio permanently, after 10 years of working in various engineering roles around the US.
After a few years of hardware-based work in the semiconductor industry, I shifted gears entirely to software development.
I worked in software for over two decades - and in doing so, developed tens of thousands of lines of embedded processor, DOS, Unix, Windows, and Linux code for my employers and my freelancing clients.
It's likely that US Army tanks driving around Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 were using onboard computers that ran firmware that I helped to develop. And my code has been a part of the product lines of several smaller software businesses in the Greater Cincinnati area.
What One Problem Am I Best at Solving for My Clients?
I communicate the real value of my client's products or services to their customers.
Often, the real value of a technology product gets buried unintentionally. Not through complacency or neglect, either. Often, developers and the companies in which they work are too busy and are working too hard to take stock of where they stand in the marketplace.
And the product and its architecture can be quite complex - the complexity overwhelms the ones closest to the work.
I help tell the story that needs to be told about your product.
What Distinguishes Me Professionally?
I am a born problem solver. In kindergarten, I remember fixing a loose faucet in a play sink in our classroom.
Friends, co-workers, and family members have all described me as "the engineer's engineer". (Most of the time, this has been stated as a compliment!)
I apply that problem-solver mindset to everything I undertake for my clients.
Where Can I Be Found When Not at Work?
I hack and tinker with computers, just not professionally any more (unless you count my Wordpress based blog or my Drupal based main site, right here.) I tinker with Linux and some languages like Python and PHP in my spare time.
When I'm not warming a seat cushion I can be found in the workshop, in our garden in warm months, or out on one of my area's bike trails.
How Long Have I Been Doing This? (Copy, That Is)
Since 2006, I have taken on copywriting projects for colleagues that I have met in online forums and the like, who have software product businesses.
Since late 2010 I have been marketing copywriting services as my primary focus.
