NEW COMPUTER SECURITY PRODUCT ENSURES FAMILIES AND HOME USERS

Comvigo, Inc., an internet security company, has introduced a new product, IMLock Home Edition, which the company points to as a solution for several risks facing today's families.

According to James Tanner, account manager at Comvigo: "There are some distinct risks and downsides associated with allowing your children to use the computer with no controls."

Tanner points to research conducted by ProtectKids.com and Journal of the American Medical Association which indicates that one in five children received online sexual solicitation. 89% of those sexual solicitations were made either in chat rooms or instant messages. One in thirty three received aggressive sexual solicitation such as being asked to meet, being called via phone, or sent mail, money, or gifts. Another risk, Tanner points out, is damage to the family computers, such as wasted time and money coping with computer viruses, bugs and “malware” that children brought into the home from internet chatting, exchanging songs online, or browsing the web. A third area of concern is lack of exercise and lack of focus: "kids need to get their homework done and participate in healthy play, and not spend all of their time chatting online", asserts Tanner.

According to Tanner, IMLock Home Edition addresses security and lifestyle risks effectively from an entirely different perspective than existing security products.

"Other security solutions try to protect from the consequences of risky online activities. We prevent the user from even being exposed to danger in the first place by blocking and controlling risky computer usage at the source", says Tanner. "Our IMLock Home Edition allows parents and guardians to effectively block and control the most widely used instant messaging programs. You can also block popular peer-to-peer file sharing programs, and individual web sites. A simple password that you set gives you the ability to block access to chat, web sites and file sharing all of the time, or on a daily schedule that you easily set up."

According to a company spokesperson, IMLock Home Edition runs on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 computers. Licenses start at $29. A free trial of IMLock Home Edition is available online at http://www.comvigo.com/ and the product is available for sale online at this site.
